Enjoy your month of MAY, 2010
From Your PTSA President – Stephanie Quarry
This month the “Staff Appreciation” lunch is scheduled for Thursday, May 20th. This is the time of year that Hope PTSA, with the help of Hope parents volunteering some of their time, can express our sincere appreciation of all they do by serving them lunch on us! It’s just one of many ways during the year PTSA and Hope parents can say “THANKS” to all the Hope Staff for their hard work, dedication, and their contributions on behalf of Hope students, our precious children. PARENTS and Caregivers, please watch for our “Staff Appreciation” flyer with more information on how you can help. We will be sending the flyer home with your student early May.

Every now and then, whether it be at an Association meeting, or at a Parent Education Night, or on this page in the monthly Hope High Herald, or even when I’m talking with a Hope parent during the year, I try to stress the importance of getting involved with your student’s school. With that said, I believe the following is appropriate to pass along. These words were taken from Fourth District PTA “Orange Leaves,” March, 2009 edition, and was adapted from the 12th District PTA Multicultural Guide, written and edited by Sylvia Cates and Lilly Dollenmayer.
Plan to Make Your PTA More Open and Inclusive
Explain to parents what PTA does – Many countries do not have PTA organizations. Many cultures do not expect parent involvement at their schools. It is very important that our parents realize that the public school system in California is designed to involve parents. It is important parents realize the expectation is “participation.” It is also very important to convey that PTA is a non-partisan organization. PTA is not concerned about the family’s legal status. PTA does not share private information with any branches of the government. PTA’s role is to help ALL parents and to support them in the process of educating their children.
Explain how parents can benefit by joining and participating – There has to be a value in PTA for the parents to want to join and help. PTA provides great training that can be applied to many paying jobs. PTA is a great source of networking for parents. Every PTA should be a source of community resources for ALL of our families.
In June Hope PTSA will celebrate four (4) years strong! We are still in our youth and we are still learning as we continue to grow. If any of our Hope parents would like to join our PTSA, and if any of you would like to volunteer your time, we’d love to hear from you. Please let us know with a note addressed to the attention of “Hope PTSA”. Just leave it in the school office - we’ll get it, and we’ll be in touch with you! THANK YOU!
