Hope Teacher recognized in Spotlight on Education.
Hope Teacher J.T. Teutimez was one of 4 AUHSD educators who have been recognized for outstanding performance with Spotlight on Educator Awards from the Women’s Division of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. Spotlight is on Four Outstanding Employees Four AUHSD educators have been recognized for outstanding performance with Spotlight on Educator Awards from the Women’s Division of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. The recipients are Ms. Autumn Browne, drama teacher at Brookhurst Junior High School; Mrs. Margaret Patino, registrar at Walker Junior High School; Mr. John Teutimez, teacher at Hope Special Education Center; and Ms. Lori Cyrus, instructional assistant and job coach at Savanna High School. The Women’s Division grants the awards annually to educators who have inspired students and instilled in them a sense of responsibility to their school and community. The recipients will be honored at a luncheon on January 28. Dr. Joseph Farley, AUHSD superintendent, thanked the civic group for honoring individuals “who represent the dedication and devotion to excellence that takes place across our district every day.” “These outstanding employees are an inspiration to all of us. More than ever, it is important to celebrate what’s good about public education.” At Hope School, which serves severely disabled students from Anaheim and the surrounding communities, Mr. Teutimez is affectionately known as “J.T.” He commands such respect that he was selected as Teacher of the Year by the PTSA, and was nominated for the Spotlight award by his principal, Mrs. Donna Erickson. Mrs. Erickson calls Mr. Teutimez an outstanding educator who teaches functional learning and life skills through modeling and setting an example for his students. He started Hope’s recycling program and planted a garden at the school several years ago to prove that gardening is not just done by farmers; anyone can do it. He also has begun building an “outdoor learning center” for students. “All of this gives the students a sense of worth, gives them self-esteem, and they learn skills that give them a step toward independence. J.T. believes each and every one of the students at Hope has a talent, and he goes the extra mile to help each of them learn that about themselves.” http://www.auhsd.k12.ca.us/apps/news/show_new... |
